We know that some archival records contain sensitive information, but what about archival records that seem benign on the surface, but may contain unexpected information such as WW2 military service records? How do archival institutions prepare and support their users to safely consult such records at each stage of their research journey (online, in person, after the visit)?
If these questions interest to you, take a look at a new AHRC fully funded Collaborative Doctoral Partnership project between King’s College London and The National Archives. The project is supervised by Dr Elizabeth Haines at TNA and Dr Anna Woodham (KCL).
More details about the studentship and how to apply can be found on KCL’s Funding Database.
While the project’s main focus is archival users, we can’t, I think disentangle the emotional responses of archival workers as well, as they help and assist user engagement with a wide range of different records.
